Zero Hunger @ UTAR
At Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, we recognize that achieving zero hunger requires addressing the complex interconnections between food security, nutrition, sustainable agriculture, and climate resilience. Our comprehensive approach encompasses research, education, community engagement, and innovative solutions that tackle hunger at its roots.
Through our integrated food security strategy, UTAR has supported local farmers, provided daily meals to school children, and developed fertilzers to enhance the growth of the foods. Our programmes focus on building sustainable food systems that can withstand climate challenges while ensuring nutritious food access for all.
Our commitment extends beyond immediate food assistance to include cutting-edge research on agricultural innovation, policy advocacy for food system transformation, and partnerships with global organizations. By addressing systemic issues and building community resilience, UTAR contributes to sustainable hunger eradication and food justice.

UTAR Food Bank Guidelines
In line with the United Nations SDG Goal 2 to end hunger and improve nutrition, UTAR aims to do its part by taking efforts to provide basic food items to those from low-income communities, the B40 group and those who with little access to food provisions.
As a teaching, learning and research institution with responsibilities to the local community and society, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman aims to extend its community activities to include the provision of food items in support of those who need them. This is also part of the university’s social responsibility to society and the university’s efforts to instill the charitable spirit and service to the community among its students and staff.
The UTAR Food Bank has been initiated since the year 2020 with projects conducted on campus such as, the Food Aid Programme (April 2020) and the UTAR Food Bank Corner (July 2021) with collaborators such as, the Buddha Light International Association (BLIA), Muhibbah Food Bank Malaysia, Econsave, the House of Karn En, as well as restaurants and the campus cafeteria operator.
Students that would like to seek assistance from the Food Bank Project can contact the Department of Student Affairs (DSA).
