In line with its commitment to environmental sustainability, UTAR recently held a Student-Staff E-Waste Collection Activity, spearheaded by Faculty of Creative Industries (FCI) academic Ts Dr Cheng Kin Meng in collaboration with ERTH (Electronic Recycling Through Heroes). The initiative aimed to promote responsible e-waste management while fostering awareness about environmental protection among students and staff. Five students from UTAR had a remarkable opportunity to attend the prestigious Global Young Scientists Summit (GYSS) 2025, held from 6 to 10 January 2025 at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Organised by the National Research Foundation (NRF) of Singapore, the summit brought together 350 young researchers from 49 economies to engage with 18 Nobel laureates and renowned scientists. Several UTAR students presented their research during the poster sessions. Ivan Lim presented his work on halophilic bacteria for high-salt food waste disposal, while Shanise Thean shared her research on food waste biodegradation. In a heartfelt celebration of community and compassion, the UTAR Department of Student Affairs (DSA) hosted the “Ramadan Radiance 2025” outreach programme on 24 March 2025 at Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak-anak Yatim Ummi dan Waled in Sungai Jerlok, Kajang. The initiative, co-organised by the UTAR Engineering Society and UTAR Staff Sports and Recreation Club (USSRC), brought together 23 participants, including the home’s founder and staff members, to share the spirit of togetherness and generosity during the holy month of Ramadan.
