UTAR Sustainability Action Statement
UTAR, established in 2002, is a not-for-profit private university with campuses in Kampar, Perak, and Bandar Sungai Long, Selangor. Guided by its 10-Year Strategic Plans, the University is dedicated to providing quality education, nurturing ethical and forward-thinking professionals, and contributing to society through research, community engagement, and strategic partnerships.
Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), UTAR actively promotes sustainability, lifelong learning, and responsible leadership to create a positive societal impact focused on ending poverty, protecting the planet, and promoting prosperity.
UTAR is committed to translating sustainability advocacy into concrete actions by integrating eco-friendly initiatives across education, research, and campus operations. The University implements comprehensive green campus policies encompassing energy conservation, waste reduction, and sustainable water management. Research and innovation efforts are directed toward developing sustainable technologies and practical solutions to address pressing environmental challenges.
Through community engagement programs, UTAR collaborates with industry partners, NGOs, and local communities to drive real-world sustainability impact. By embedding sustainable practices into its curriculum and daily operations, the University empowers students to become responsible global citizens who uphold peace, respect diversity, and contribute to governance and social well-being. UTAR continues to equip the younger generation with the knowledge and values needed to navigate a rapidly changing world and to build a sustainable future for all.
UTAR Kampar Campus
The UTAR Kampar Campus in Perak state is located off the North–South Highway, a 190-kilometre or 2-hour drive from Kuala Lumpur. Known as a former tin-mining town, Kampar is a district within Perak’s Kinta Valley, which is historically rich with tin reserves. Today, Kampar is a bustling education hub following the establishment of the Kampar Campus.
The award-winning Kampar Campus is flanked by picturesque mountains and scenic lakes, offering a naturally peaceful environment that is conducive for learning, teaching, and research.
In Kampar town, you can find many affordable accommodations, eateries, supermarkets, and other amenities in the Kampar township. There are bicycle shops to cater to the convenience of students who prefer to cycle to campus.
UTAR Sungai Long Campus
The UTAR Sungai Long Campus located in Bandar Sungai Long, a main township in Kajang, Selangor, is a state-of-the-art, purpose-built campus. Its location within the Bandar Sungai Long residential township near Kuala Lumpur city provides the best of both worlds. It offers the tranquil learning environment of a suburban setting and the conveniences of a big city such as plentiful housing, affordable eateries, banking facilities and diverse entertainment.
To complement its teaching, learning and research experience, the campus is equipped with a library, laboratories, computers and medical equipment.

Surrounded by 25 scenic tin mining lakes, UTAR Kampar Campus is an avifauna hotspot that attracts scores of nature lovers and bird watchers. The UTAR Bird Sanctuary is home to five species of herons and over 100 bird species.
